Continuing our series of the people behind the property, we sat down with a long term resident of Downtown Dubai to find out what they love about their area and why they think it is the best place to live in Dubai.
Hi Basel, thank you so much for sitting down with us. So, you live in Downtown Dubai, what is that like?
There is something so unique about Downtown Dubai. It is the beating heart of the city and I feel truly privileged to call it my home.
What type of property do you live in and who with?
I am in a rented apartment. It has 2 bedrooms, a large balcony and amazing views! In the evenings I can sit out on my balcony and watch the fireworks at Dubai Mall, the lightshow at Burj Khalifa and the people milling around the bustling streets of Downtown.
So what do you like most about living in Downtown?
It has to be the culture. There is so much to do and see, and much of it is only minutes away from my apartment. I get to eat at delicious restaurants, see amazing music at Dubai Opera House and meet all types of people from different places around the world. It is also so convenient for getting around the city. It is only a short drive to the airport, DIFC and the beach.
What sort of things do you get up to during the weekend?
I love to eat out (I think I might have mentioned that already!) so I spend a lot of my weekends socialising with friends and trying out new restaurants and cuisines – I love that there is always a new location or culinary treat to discover. If I have friends visiting, we will definitely hit up Dubai Mall for some shopping or even to just go to the cinema – although last weekend I took my niece there to go to the aquarium, the sharks were so cool!
What is your favourite thing about living in Downtown?
The views. Whenever there is anything amazing going on at the Burj Khalifa, all of my friends and family want to come and hang out at mine so they can watch. It makes my house feel so special to have such an unforgettable aspect to it that you wouldn’t get anywhere else in the world.
If you had to live anywhere else in Dubai, where would it be?
I do really like the design of the new One Palm Residences, but since I work in DIFC, the Palm Jumeirah is a little bit too far away for me in terms of the commute. But they are so stunning, it is almost tempting. I hope one of my friends moves in there so I can go and visit lots and then we have the best of both worlds.
