“BULLDOZER”, EGYPTIAN ARTIST HANY RASHED’S LATEST BODY OF WORK, CARRIES SOME “EARTHSHATTERING” UNDERTONES.

The series of paintings combines the use of manipulated plastic sheets with distorted images from various sources. The bulldozer is a recurring image in the technically strong pieces. It signifies deconstruction and changes taking over global society and people. Though presented in a satirical fashion and playful imaginings, “Bulldozer” is a very serious commentary on the cynicism in human interaction and social behaviour today.

The ongoing project expresses Rashed’s take on “evolution” through pop art, the relationship between East and West and his views on the dominance of the West in the era of globalisation. Despite the comic nature of these artworks, there are glaring tormented pictures of people and society in this series and throughout Rashed’s repertoire. Albeit gentle, Rashed’s Bulldozer is robust and can move mountains, if you’re willing to look closely enough.
